Are anemones in season?

WHEN OUT OF SEASON: Anemones are currently out of season, and are back in season from winter to spring.

How to care for your cut anemones

Remove any foliage that would be below the waterline to avoid contaminating the water • Re-cut the stems at a 45° angle to encourage maximum water absorption • Place the stems in a clean vase with freshly-drawn, lukewarm water as soon as possible • Ensure the flowers are positioned out of direct sunlight, away from drafts or heating and avoid extreme temperatures • Change the water regularly to keep the flowers happy and healthy.

*Please note, our anemones are delivered in closed buds as they are fresh from the grower, which means you will be able to enjoy their beauty as they open over the course of a few days. Tepid water can accelerate the opening of the flowers should you wish for them to bloom faster.

If you would prefer your anemones to be open upon delivery, we recommend contacting our Customer Service Team to place your order 3-4 days prior to your delivery and we will do our best to accommodate this request.

Anemones have many meanings across their 120 species and shades. In Greek mythology, the anemone has several meanings, most recognisably signifying the arrival of spring and as symbol of loss. However, in modern day western culture, the anemone is seen as a symbol of good luck and protection against bad energy. Different colours of anemone also have specific meanings such as:

Red or pink anemones symbolise love
Purple anemones symbolise protection against evil

How do you keep anemones blooming?

To keep you anemones blooming, follow these simple steps:
Plant your anemones in moist but not soggy soil in a well-draining container or flower bed.
Varieties that bloom in spring will bloom more in partial shade.
Varieties that bloom in the autumn enjoy full sun.
Most varieties of anemones do not need to be dead headed - specifically blanda and wood varieties.
To encourage more flowers, you can cut back your anemone coronaria plant.

How long do anemone flowers last?

Anemone plants will flower for up to four weeks, and their foliage should be left alone rather than cut back during the season to help build up energy to grow next year’s flowers. In a vase, anemone’s are particularly long-lasting, often thriving for around 10 days. As these flowers are so delicate, its useful to add FLOWERBX flower food to your vase to keep each stem looking bright and beautiful.
