When is mimosa in season?
Mimosa has a fleeting season, available for just six weeks between January and March.
What does the mimosa flower symbolise?
Mimosa flowers symbolise strength, sensibility and sensitivity, thanks to their association with International Women's Day and women supporting women initiatives.
What do mimosa flowers smell like?
Mimosa flowers have a warm, powdery, sweet honey scent, and are used frequently in perfumery. They are often chosen to compliment other more powerful floral fragrances such as rose, jasmine, and tuberose.
How to care for Mimosa branches
Mimosa is a cut branch and will traditionally last 3-4 days in the right conditions. Following this, you can remove water from your vase and preserve your mimosa by drying. Leave in a dry vase, or tie and hang upside down.
For vase life care:
Recut stems at a sharp diagonal
Split the base of each branch vertically by approximately 1cm to allow water to move more easily up the stem
Remove all excess foliage which would sit below the level of the water
Keep branches in a cooler area, away from direct heat, sunlight and any draughts
It is crucial that you change water regularly
If stems start to drop, to try and prolong, re-cut stems with a fresh diagonal cut and add tepid water, this will help hydrate and clear any small blockages in the stems
*As this is a naturally occurring product, there will be a slight size and colour variation throughout the season.
** Please keep away from pets as can be hazardous if swallowed.
How do I style mimosa flowers?
Mimosa flowers are best arranged as full-length branches in a large vase, such as our 19cm Royal Windsor vase. Mimosas are a beautiful alternative to other flowering branches, bringing a dose of bright colour and unique beauty to your home, lasting up to 7 days in a vase. To easily arrange mimosas, you should:
Keep each branch long at around 55cm
Arrange branches in a spiral
Mimosas are thirsty flowers! Change their water regularly
Keep away from heat sources
How do you dry mimosa flowers?
Drying mimosas is a great way to preserve their beauty once their vase life is up. To successfully dry cut mimosa flowers, you should:
Remove water from your vase
Leave your branches in a dry vase
Alternatively, tie or hang your branches upside down for best results
Mimosa and International Women's Day symbolism
Many relate mimosa with the annual celebration of International Women's Day, brought to the occasion as a symbol of female strength and sensibility.
