Areca Palm

The areca lutescens, more commonly known as the Areca Palm tree or 'Butterfly palm', is one of the most popular indoor plants due to its high effectiveness at filtering and cleaning the air in any given environment. The narrow and plentiful fronds arranged close to one another in neat, compact lines along the stems are what differentiate this particular plant from other palm tree species.

The Areca Palm will thrive in a well-lit spot or partial shade, but direct sunlight, draughts and fluctuating temperatures should be avoided.

Native to the tropics, Areca Palms are used to having their roots in constantly damp soil. Therefore, it is advisable to ensure the soil is continually moist without overwatering.

Your plant will benefit from plant food every two to four weeks.

FLOWERBX tip: Ensure a drainage system is in place for your plant to prevent excess water gathering in the base of the pot and rotting the roots.
