FLOWERBX hydrangeas are an instant hit. Bold, bright, and joyful – just five stems create an impact. From sweet pinks to rich plums, there's so much to love throughout their season. We've rounded up our top care tips to keep them looking their best from summer through to autumn.

STEP ONE

Get started by cutting each hydrangea at a 45-degree angle with a pair of our FLOWERBX floral scissors – about 1 inch upwards in the centre of each stem. Hydrangeas love hydration more than most flowers, so this will help them to draw maximum water towards their XL floral heads.

STEP TWO

Your hydrangeas emit a sap that begins to seal their stem almost immediately, so getting them into water and away from direct sun is a must. Choose a vase with plenty of depth that allows you to submerge almost the entire stem in water.

STEP TWO

Now, it's time to arrange your hydrangeas. With a single stem in hand, layer your flowers in the same direction to form a symmetrical spiral. You can keep your stems tall for a towering display, or snip them a little shorter to place in bud vases.

STEP FOUR

Hydrangeas absorb water through every part of the plant— from their stems to their leaves and petals! To boost hydration, you can submerge your hydrangea heads in a bowl of lukewarm water on arrival. If they're looking a little lacklustre a few days in, continue by spritzing their petals a few times a day and topping up their vase with flower food.

HYDRANGEA HOW TO

FLOWERBX Founder and CEO,  Whitney Bromberg Hawkings, answers your most-asked questions.

WHEN ARE HYDRANGEAS IN SEASON?

Hydrangeas are in season from late June, evolving in colour and tone throughout the seasons to unveil autumn varieties until the end of November.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SUMMER AND AUTUMN HYDRANGEAS?

When summer hydrangeas arrive, they are all about pastel tones and warming brights. Some customer favourites include Sky Blue, Cherry Crush, and Pistachio varieties. Autumnal hydrangeas are full of depth, celebrating tones such as Sage Blush and Pinot Noir.

HOW SHOULD I ARRANGE MY HYDRANGEAS?

When styling hydrangeas at home, you can choose to keep your stems tall or cut shorter. Taller stems work well on a coffee table or sideboard, while shorter stems suit our Bailey bud vases on a tablescape or mantlepiece.
